But I'm changing that.

So I've started to browse through other people's blogs

What I have noticed is there's a fair amount of people who put their link in a comment they make. What a transparent thing to do. I would rather make quality comments that get people interested in coming to my blog. You know, the proper way. Though, there are people who do both; which, I guess is ok for now. My blog is in its infancy, after all. But I think if one really wants to succeed, projecting confidence and wit should take one farther than direct advertising.

About you posting your link: (skip this if you didn't/don't) If you do post your link without an insightful comment, it will eventually be deleted. I care about the content of this blog. For now, I will accept a single link post, so choose where you post it wisely, because I will delete subsequent link posts. If you said something witty in one of the link posts, I will keep that one only. If you said something witty in multiple of the posts, I will delete all but the first, and repost your comment with your name attributed to it.

Some people use more than one ad section. I am skeptical about whether this really benefits their income enough to justify annoying their visitors. Until I am sure that it is well worth it, I choose to have just the one box.

I think I'll start blogging/networking every other day, and not use the computer on those alternate days.

My blogs have 7 and 11 subscribers, ha. 7/11 is an ok store.

I wonder to what extent having unique content is valuable. Is it better to write about things one is already interested, and have a bulk of the material concerning the thing itself? Or is it better to write ideas that are closer to unique? I guess that depends on the person, and they aren't mutually exclusive.

  1. Good call! I must admit I have been guilty of this, however I think your right and I will refrain from such practices in the future.

I think especially the "followed. follow me bro!" type of comments are probably counter-productive.

  2. I would always rather have someone check out my blog on their own, than have to promote it in comments.

  3. I post my link sometimes, yeah. I'm hoping that people will be like OOH THIS PERSON HAS A BLOG AND CARES ABOUT IT BECAUSE HE POSTS HIS/HER LINK! I don't know. :/ Because of the content of this here blog entry, I'll refrain from posting my link here.

  4. I do like your thinking, I did feel wanting need to visit your blog after you left such a nice comment on mine. It may have been sheer coincidence that for the first blog I read on your page was about such issue of what's the best way to attract an audience.
Keep up the great work :D

  5. Wit and whims. How one hand washes another. These are all interesting dynamics, and as such, will further generate interest as time progresses.

  6. I dont like people who only post links back but i occasionally end comments with my blogs address. having unique contend isn't anything now as everyone has it, I think whats important is an opinion on something thats important to you.

  7. I like that; unique content is not unique because everyone has it. :p

Yeah if there's a well thought out statement ending in a blog link, it is acceptable to an extent. But at the same time, I am just waiting for the day when my blog is self sustaining and I can delete any post with a link in it. I only mind because I feel it makes my blog a little less legitimate.

Which matters to me because it almost cheapens something that came from me. Like, I don't care if it happens on my picture blog because that's not content I made.

  8. "If everyone is unique, nobody is unique because they're all the same: unique."

  10. I totally agree with you. I mean, of course we all want to promote our blogs. But linking in comments is a bit tacky imo. Agreed about the ads on a blog as well. I used to have an old blog where I had them all over the place. Now I just have one. Anyway, nice blog. I shall be following you.

  11. Nice; a blog post that actually makes me think. I tend to link my blog(s) in my comments, because I assume that people are more likely to take a look at their comments rather than looking at their followers, but your post helped to change my mind!

  12. I agree. It's really annoying when people post their blogs url. I mean, if people are interested in you, they'll click your name and find your blog through your profile. It's not hard. Posting a url just makes it look like they only comment to get more followers, and that's not cool at all.

  13. I feel retroactively guilty about proactively advertising my blog now. Oops. I won't do it again, I promise!

I like what you mentioned about multiple-ad-posts, though. I think it's important for people to realize exactly how disconcerting it can become when people have several boxes of ads displayed- or when the advertisements on the page take up more space than the content the audience is there to view.

I appreciate the service that you do the community, monsieur.

  14. Unique Content - entirely worth it. Not to say reposting other content is less worthwhile, however, too large a portion of the internet is just reposting reposts. Copypasta upon copypasta. I think for a blog to be really successful, you need to at least bring something to the world that hasn't been brought before.

When posting on my own blog, I don't necessarily post strictly original content, but I do try to put my own spin on everything. I paraphrase, if you will.

  15. You can never go wrong with unique content even when it can become time consuming. It's worth it.

  16. Well, when you think about it wouldn't it make you appear obnoxious to post your own link in your comment. Every bit of writing you write reflects the quality of what you write in your blog, so being obnoxious in your comments would make people think you have an obnoxious blog. A better way to go about it is to post comments of pristine quality with myriad words in your vocabulary to draw in readers who would expect a good intelligent blog from a person such as the one posting the comment and seek out that blog by clicking your name. The same could also go for being something else in your comments like interesting or creative. Whatever you would like readers to expect from your blog.
